The band formed in autumn of 2011
Mr G a self confessed addict of 1940’s brimmed Hats, baggy suits, jazzy kipper ties and leather souled blues music,
Mr G was raised on a diet of Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone and Elvis Presley,
Mr G began playing harmonica at 18 years of age when he was given a harmonica by a friend who could not play it,
Having played in various bands and also collaborated with local musicians such as the well known Chorlton blues piano player Dave Taylor of the Band Rum Bha Bha
Mr G advertised for fresh musicians on the popular website JMB join my band.co.uk
The blueprint was to form a collaboration of fresh musicians coming together in an equally creative collective, with a blank canvas to write and perform music inspired by the great jump blues, swing and jazz men of the forties and fifties such as Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, muddy waters, and Sunny Boy Williamson to name but a few,
Mr G met pro Guitarist James Lawley, they jammed together and immediately hit it off, playing and digging the same type of blues and jazz.
Then came Double Bass player Steve McEvoy, a formidable and accomplished double and electric bass player of the band The Celler Machine and also a (much in demand ) bass Guitar teacher .
Then after auditions with a variety of drummers none of which quite had the right feel James Lawley suggested Tom Duffy of the band Bedlam Shake with whom J .L. had already played with in the AstroBand.
Mr G’s Bluesband have consistently performed throughout the Northwest blues and Jazz circuit out each weekend paying there dues in pubs clubs and also the occasional cafe/restaurant with their dinner jazz repertoire
Mr G’s Bluesband building a reputation for their unique brand of foot tapping Blues Jazz Jump and Swing music
Mr G’s Bluesband have performed at venues all over the Northwest including Matt & Phreds Jazz Club winner of the Manchester Tourism People’s Choice Award for “Best Night Out in Manchester and is regarded as the top small music venue with artists such as Jamie Cullum and Adele to name but a few gracing the stage
Mr G’s Bluesband are at present writing and recording original material for a CD hopefully out for Autumn 2014
